How Your Score Is Calculated

Your ATS score is an estimate of how easily an Applicant Tracking System can read and match your resume. It's based on five areas.

  1. 1

    ATS Readability & Parsing

Whether the file can actually be read by parsing software. We flag multi-column layouts, tables, text placed in document headers or footers, icon-based contact info, and unusual fonts — all of which can scramble or hide your content from an ATS.

  2. 2

    Formatting & Structure

Standard section headings (Contact, Summary, Experience, Skills, Education), consistent date formatting, and a single-column layout help an ATS place your content into the right fields.

  3. 3

    Keyword Matching

The overlap between the terms in your resume and the job description — including close synonyms. If the posting asks for 'client relations' and your resume only says 'account management', that's a near-miss we count.

  4. 4

    Job-Description Alignment

Whether your resume speaks to this specific role versus reading like a generic version. Tailoring language, seniority level, and required skills to the posting improves alignment.

  5. 5

    Experience & Content Quality

Quantified, specific achievements (e.g. 'grew email list 40% in 6 months') score higher than vague duty statements (e.g. 'responsible for email marketing').

No score can perfectly predict what happens at every company — different employers use different ATS software and settings. ResumePass is built to catch the most common, well-documented reasons resumes get filtered out, so you can fix them before you apply.
